Alternative Risk Transfer (A.R.T.)

Players, table, cards, chips, dealer button, scrolling message sign, polaroids, artworks.
Locations: Whitechapel Gallery, Rag Factory, Old Police Station and Art Car Boot Fair, (all London), 2009 / 2010

A.R.T. is a collaborative research project that uses a modified form of poker to explore the inter-relationship of power,
risk and value in art practice and the wider art market.

In the game, invited players including artists, collectors and curators, stake their art in an ongoing negotiation of value
in an environment charged with risk, uncertainty and competition. As the game progresses, micro-political strategies
and ruses emerge as players test their skills in the manipulation of risk and value. Nomadic and evolutionary, the game
moves from place to place, reformulating according to context, players and the current agenda of the project.
